Two Victories for Sports Medicine in 2018
The Texas Medical Board (TMB) approved a June 2018 rule to recognize the licenses from out-of-state team physicians when they travel with their teams to Texas. TOA pushed this initiative because it will encourage other states to pass similar measures, which will protect Texas team physicians when they travel with their teams to other states.
President Trump signed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) re-authorization act into law in October 2018, and it included the Sports Medicine Licensure Clarification Act, which directs medical liability plans to cover team physicians and athletic trainers when they travel with their teams to other states.
