Texas law requires specific CME for every physician license renewal. TOA tracks the mandates and delivers the training so members stay compliant.
The Texas Legislature has added new CME mandates in recent sessions. TOA provides members with free access to the required training and flags every new requirement in TOA’s e-mail newsletters.

Human Trafficking Training
The 2019 Texas Legislature passed a law that requires physicians and other health care practitioners to complete at least one hour of continuing education in human trafficking prevention.

Opioid Prescribing CME
Three bills passed by the 2019 Texas Legislature require physicians to complete two hours of opioid prescribing CME for each two-year license period. The mandate affects licenses renewed on or after September 1, 2020.

The mission of the Texas Orthopaedic Association’s continuing medical education program is to provide high-quality, evidence-based educational activities — delivered through its Annual Conference and other live and enduring formats — that address the professional practice needs of orthopaedic surgeons and other health care clinicians who diagnose, treat and manage musculoskeletal conditions.

Expected Results
The expected results of the program are measurable increases in participants’ competence — their ability to apply current, evidence-based strategies in musculoskeletal care — and improvements in their performance in practice.
